There is relatively little known about bats in the Kootenays, including the most basic information about what species are in the region. Your attic or barn may be home to an important colony of a vulnerable or threatened species of bat. As part of the Kootenay Community Bat Project, biologists visit reported bat roost sites to identify the species present and discuss your concerns.

If you have bats and want them out of your house, the biologists can discuss these issues with you and help you develop a conservation-based strategy for removing them that will get them out without hurting them or you. All 16 species of bats in BC are protected under Provincial Wildlife Act.
